Altitoy Ternua day two
The first stage of the 2016 Grande Course circuit practically ends in a photo-finish, with three of the men’s teams finishing within less than a minute of each other. The final victory went to the day’s winners Mathéo Jacquemoud – Kilian Jornet and to the French duo Axelle Mollaret – Laetitia Roux.
Snow and still more snow on the French Pyrenees, and once again, a different course with respect to the one originally announced. Today the athletes in the senior category raced along a circular route approximately 1400m D+ in length with three climbs and an equal number of downhill runs.
There was a real battle for the leading positions and the outcome of the race was decided in a mere handful of seconds, with Jornet - Jacquemoud finishing the Altitoy with a total time of 3h40'45'' in front of Lenzi-Eydallin (a gap of only 9 seconds) and Boscacci-Antonioli (3h41'06'').
No surprises as far as the women’s race is concerned. The same order of arrival and classification as Saturday, with Laetitia Roux –Axelle Mollaret winning with a final time of 4h33' in front of Spain’s Mireia Mirò- Marta Garcia Farres (4h39') and the Italian duo Martina Valmassoi - Katia Tomatis (4h41').
In the light of this – especially as regards the men’s competition – it looks as if we are in for a really cracking Pierra Menta …
ALTITOY JEUNES
Hard-fought races in the youth categories as well, but no surprises with respect to Saturday’s race. In the junior category, victory went to Inigo Martinez – Pablo Oderiz over Florent Garcie – Bastien Castillon and Titouan Huige – Marc Font Torres. In the women’s race, the Italian duo Melanie Ploner – Giorgia Felicetti won once again, ahead of Maria Illa – Erola Bisquert and Carla Martinez – Chloé Fomique.
Confirmations also came in the cadet category: after staking their claim to victory by winning the first leg, twins Fabien and Sebastien Guicardaz from the Aosta Valley came first once again, ahead of Diego Mina Ruix De Erennchun – Fermin Martinex and Rafa Urbizu – Txomi Ortiz. In the girls’ race, victory went to Charlotte Iratzoquy – Lou Vedere.
The next objective... Pierra
