Adamello Ski Raid, part five

Today, following along the traces of the WW1 communication trenches, 350 two-man teams battled it out over a course that was as tough as it was spectacular, covering 43km with a positive elevation gain of 4000mt. The combination of large crowds of spectators, fabulous weather, the breathtaking Presena glacier as its setting and an amazing starting list contributed to making this popular race more successful than ever. The winners were, yet again, Damiano Lenzi – Matteo Eydallin, Laetitia Roux – Mireia Mirò, victors of the Pierra Menta and leaders of La Grande Course. Joining them on the podium were Michele Boscacci - Robert Antonioli, Martin Anthamatten - Anton Palzer, Emelie Forsberg - Axelle Mollaret Elena Nicolini - Katia Tomatis.

But today it is ski mountaineering that is the real winner. A sport that enthuses the public and helps to bring people closer to the mountains. Those who were present at this year’s race will find it hard to forget the emotions transmitted by these 700 heroes.  Now there is just enough time to recharge the batteries before 25th April when the Show with a capital “S” will be back on the road with the Mezzalama Trophy.
