two victories for Italian teams at the Long Distance World Championship

Michele Boscacci – Davide Magnini and Alba De Silvestro – Giulia Murada: two victories for Italian teams at the Long Distance World Championship. On the French snow of  Arêches Beaufort the Italian athletes won the last world title of this season. It has been an original World Championship, born from the renewed cooperation between Ismf and La Grande Course, with a spectacular course of 3.400 metres of positive difference in height, full of uphills and downhills. An exciting challenge among the 38 participating teams (24 male teams and 14 female teams) representing the stronger racers of the international ski mountaineering world! The race course on the celebrated Pierra Menta mountains offered steep uphills on closed slopes, breathtaking downhills and real alpinistic foot parts. After the starting part teams immeadiately faced the first long and technical uphill of the day. Along this first ascent the Italian racers, and in particular a very strong Davide Magnini, took some seconds of advantage on the Swiss team of Remi Bonnet and Werner Marti. Behind the leading group there was a group of Italian teams. Moving to the women race the first uphill clearly showed the teams which would have fought for the medals: Alba De Silvestro and Giulia Murada and Axelle Gachet Mollaret and Lorna Bonnel went up side by side and went out from the first exchange area at the same time. At the third place the couple Giulia Compagnoni and Katia Tomatis. All along the next uphills, with the two transits to Col de la Forclaz near the celebrated Grand Mont, the team Boscacci-Magnini tried to  increase the pace, gaining much more ground on the Swiss team. For the third place there was a great sport fight between the Austrian team Jakob Hermann – Christian Hoffmann and the Italian one Nadir Maguet – William Boffelli. The couple Matteo Eydallin – Robert Antonioli was in the fifth place. On the last short uphill the italian couple managed their lead while Marti and Bonnet strenghtened their second position. The bronze medalists will be decided on the last downhill leading to the finishing line of Planey. Michele Boscacci and Davide Magnini are the new World Champions with the final time of 3:28'55'', and the silver medals went to the Swiss Werner Marti – Remi Bonnet. After a perfect downhill, Nadir Maguet and William Boffelli reached the third place winning the bronze medals with a final time of 3:33'32''. Just outside the podium the austrian couple and at the fifth place the italian Antonioli-Eydallin. On the female competition, during the second uphill the italian team De Silvestro – Murada overtook the french couple and also their teammates Ilaria Veronese – Mara Martini increased the pace going to the second position. Alba De Silvestro and Giulia Murada won the World title with the final time of 4:15'08'' while Veronese and Martini finished second with 3'50''of delay. On the third step of the podium went the French team of Axelle Gachet Mollaret and Lorna Bonnel. At the fourth place the swedish team of Tove Alexandersson and Fanny Borgstrom while at the fifth place the italian team Giulia Compagnoni and Katia Tomatis.
