MILLET TOUR DU RUTOR EXTREME 2018 DAY 1 - A sensational Michele Boscacci & Davide Magnini on first stage


Michele Boscacci & Davide Magnini dominate on the first day of the Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême. In the women’s race, Axelle Mollaret – Jennifer Fiechter seal their first victory. A truly spectacular start to the only Italian stage of La Grande Course 2018. A huge race stage, 19km long and with 2639m of elevation gain.  704 competitors from 18 different nations.  To be precise, 300 men’s teams, 22 women’s teams, 30 youth teams. Three days of racing ahead of them, 7000m of elevation gain distributed over 75 km real off-piste skiing.
 
Out in front from start to finish, the duo Michele Boscacci – Davide Magnini crossed the line in Valgrisenche in 2h49’07”, ahead of French athletes William Bon Mardion – Xavier Gachet -2h50’44”- and the other pair from the Italian Alpine corps Matteo Eydallin – Nadir Maguet -2h50’52-. Just off the podium were Jakob Hermann – Filippo Barazzuol and Werner Marti – Martin Anthamatten.  
 
The women’s race was much more hard-fought, with Axelle Mollaret from France and Jennifer Fiechter from Switzerland coming first in 3h31’05”, only 1’03” ahead of the Italian pair Alba De Silvestro – Katia Tomatis.  Third, with a time of 3h42’34”, were Lorna Bonnel – Séverine Pont Combe. Tatiana Locatelli – Corinna Ghirardi, who came fourth, and Martina De Silvestro – Martina Valmassoi, fifth, also put in a good performance.  
 
All eyes were on the Tête du Rutor for the first huge stage: 19km-long and with an elevation gain of 2639m spread over 3 tough climbs. A real race, “extrême” both by name and by nature, for the youth categories too.  The winners in the junior race were Julien Ancay and Arthur Blanc in 1h39-04”. Second place went to home boys Sébastien Guichardaz – Fabien Guichardaz (1h44’44”), while Julien Bernaz – Ellmenreich Baptiste (1h45’39”) came third. In the girls’ race, stage victory went to  Olesia Ronzon – Alessia Re  2h45’21”, followed by Melissa Del Vincenzo and Elena Bulanti in 2h50’23”.
 
In the cadet race, the Swiss pair Leo Besson – Tobias Donnet crossed the finish line first in 1h24’06”, in front of Matteo Sostizzo – Pietro Festini Purlan (1h25’19”) from Italy and the Franco-Swiss team Antoine Marietta – Matteo Favre (1h30’07”).
