A front-page finale for the first edition of the Grande Course Jeunes

A front-page finale for the first edition of the Grande Course Jeunes, won by cadets Marco Cunaccia, Elisa Pedrolini and by juniors Enrico Loss – Debora Contrio. Their smiles and those of all the 2015 finishers are the best success one could wish for.  According to the figures around 165 young athletes participated in this first edition.
The present and future of ski mountaineering started off the season in the striking location of the Passo del Tonale. In the company of firmly established champions, it was then the turn of the magical transalpine event held in the birthplace of ski mountaineering.  Then the Grand Finale on Saturday,   with a first-time Mezzalama which will leave an indelible mark on the memory of those competing in it and who were fortunate enough to be able to race in such a magnificent and unique setting.

Thanks to the postponement of the “glacier marathon” which, weather permitting, will be raced on May 2, the 20 teams of juniors and cadets were the undisputed protagonists of this last weekend in April: by racing in the youth Mezzalama they have gone down in the annals of the Aosta Valley race and of ski-mountaineering history.

A spectacular technical course was traced especially for them in the area of the Canalino dell’Aquila. As far as the race results are concerned, adding their names to the roll of honour were Erik Pettavino - Enrico Cognein & Deborah Chiarello and Marianne Fatton in the junior category and Sébastien - Fabien Guichardaz & Giorgia Felicetti and Melanie Ploner amongst the cadets.

Now for the ski-mountaineering youngsters it is time for a well-earned holiday, for MTB, hill-running – but as soon as the temperature starts to drop and snow covers the mountains once again we will be there waiting for them with yet another winter of great competitions, another winter of La Grande Course.
